Thirdy Ravena on why he wears jersey number 0

Thirdy Ravena was impressive in his Jones Cup debut for the Chooks-to-Go-powered Ateneo Pilipinas. Not only did he amaze the Filipino crowd watching live or at home, but he also amazed the Taiwanese media.

The 21-year-old 23 for 2023 Gilas Cadet was all over the place in the contest, tallying 17 points, seven rebounds, three steals, and a block. And he was also able to provide a highlight in the contest after soaring for a putback jam midway through the first frame of Ateneo Pilipinas’ 87-64 win over Chinese-Taipei White.

With his outstanding debut, the locals of Taiwan were curious: Why does Ravena wear number “0” on his jersey.

“Primarily, it’s what I think the number of people who can stop me from my dream [of] being a basketball player,” said the Chooks-to-Go/UAAP-NCAA Press Corps Mythical Team member.

The only time that stopped Ravena from playing the game he loves was back in 2015 due to his grades not meeting the academic quota of Ateneo.

This time around, he is always reminded to do well both on and off the court.

“It’s always just a reminder whenever I put on my jersey that only I can stop my dream of playing basketball,” he closed.
