RJ Abarrientos moves from Ulsan to Shinshu

RJ Abarrientos’ next destination will be in the B.League.

Days after getting his release from Ulsan Hyundai Mobis, the reigning KBL Rookie of the Year has signed a two-year deal with Shinshu.

The team made the announcement on Tuesday.

“I am very excited for this new journey with the Shinshu Brave Warriors and will do my best to win as many games as we can this season. I can’t wait to play in front of our fans and see you soon!” said Abarrientos.

The 5-foot-11 guard out of Far Eastern University spent his rookie year with the Phoebus.

During his first year as a pro, he averaged 13.29 points, 2.8 rebounds, 4.77 assists, and 1.34 steals in 56 games played.

He led the team to a quarterfinals finish in Korea’s premier league.

However, Abarrientos and Ulsan Hyundai Mobis parted ways a week ago after a contract renegotiation did ended up in an impasse, resulting in his release.

If ever Abarrientos decides to come back to the KBL after this season, the Phoebus will still own his rights.

Last season, Shinshu finished at 10th place with a 29-30 record.

With the Brave Warriors, he will join compatriot Matthew Aquino — who has become a local in Japan.
