Aside from aiming to wreak havoc in the PBA alongside Jayson Castro in the TNT Katropa, scoring sensation Terrence Romeo is also looking forward to teaming up with the best point guard in Asia once again.
Romeo has been absent from Gilas Pilipinas in the last two windows of the 2019 FIBA World Cup Asian Qualifiers due to a nagging knee injury, leaving the national team deprived of a mouth-watering Castro-Romeo backcourt duo.
The last time the two guards shared backcourt duties was in the 2017 FIBA Asia Cup in Lebanon, where the Filipino cagers ended up in 7th place.
The former Far Eastern University star made it clear that he wants to play in the Qualifiers’ third window this June.
Now, that he will be working with Castro side-by-side in TNT, it is only a sign of better things to come for Gilas.
“Para sa’kin, magandang practice na namin ito for Gilas,” expressed the 26-year-old Wednesday afternoon, moments after his first-ever practice with the Texters since being traded by the GlobalPort Batang Pier last Tuesday.
“Mas madali na naming makukuha yung chemistry ng isa’t-isa kasi magkasama kami palagi ngayon sa practice. Tapos ‘di kami gaanong maninibago pagdating namin ng Gilas kasi halos same lang naman yung nira-run (system).”
But it won’t be just a Castro-Romeo show though.
For the three-time scoring champion, their focus upon his return to the Nationals is on helping his fellow flag-bearers become better.
“‘Di na kami gaanong ano.. More on kung paano naman namin tutulungan yung iba, kung paano namin mas mapapadali yung trabaho nung mga teammates namin doon sa paligid namin,” said pride of Cavite.
