Superbon vs. Allazov brings worldwide relevance to kickboxing

Kickboxing may be a foreign sport to Filipinos because the country has always been a boxing nation. But now local fans will have the chance to witness not only top-notch kickboxing, but literally two of the best pound-for-pound strikers go at it this Saturday morning.

ONE Featherweight Kickboxing World Champion Superbon Singha Mawynn returns to action when he defends his strap against Chingiz “Chinga” Allazov in the main event of ONE Fight Night 6 at the Impact Arena in Bangkok, Thailand, on 14 January.

Superbon has been on the warpath since coming over to ONE, beating some of the best fighters on the planet. He started with a decision win over Sitthichai Sitsongpeenog before winning the World Title by knocking out Giorgio Petrosyan, who many consider the greatest kickboxer ever.

After dispatching Marat Grigorian last year, Superbon now turns his attention to Allazov with the intention to prove that he’s still the best striker in the world.

“How lucky [are] our fans all over the world to get to witness the world’s greatest pound-for-pound kickboxer in the world Superbon,” ONE Chairman and CEO Chatri Sityodtong said.

“Truly, his journey from nothing, to hero status, to superstar, to world champion, to the greatest kickboxer on the planet is remarkable and extraordinary.

He won’t have it easy against Allazov, who mauled some of the best kickboxers on the planet to win the ONE Featherweight Kickboxing World Grand Prix.

Allazov hardly broke a sweat in the quarters and the semis, dispatching Samy Sana and Jo Nattawut in the first rounds of those respective fights before outpointing Sitthichai to win the stacked tournament.

Not only will he bring a World Title to his home country of Belarus with a win, he’ll also cement himself as the best striker on the planet.

“I’ll tell you Chingiz is not only a multiple-time World Champion, one of the greatest strikers on the planet. He won the World Grand Prix last year, looking sharper than he’s ever been,” Sityodtong said.

“I would say, I’ve been a fan of both Superbon and Chingiz for a long time. We are seeing the very, very best Chingiz Allazov I’ve ever seen in his entire career, but I’ve also [been] seeing the very best Superbon in his entire career as well.”

With that in mind, he isn’t expecting anything less when the two great strikers collide.

“It is going to be an all-out war. This main event is going to light up not just Thailand, it’s going to light up the world. And mark my words, I predict somebody’s going to get knocked out,” Sityodtong said.

“I predict a KO between Superbon and Chingiz. The ONE Featherweight World Champion and the ONE Featherweight World Grand Prix Champion, the two best strikers on the planet today.”
