Spain crushes Canada to seal perfect prelims, Colombia joins in Futsal Women’s World Cup QF

Spain ensured a triumphant entry into the quarterfinals of the 2025 FIFA Futsal Women’s World Cup after routing Canada, 7–0, on Friday at the Philsports Arena in Pasig City.

In the other Group B match, Colombia secured a 4–1 victory over Thailand, allowing the South Americans to advance as group runners-up.

The Spaniards surged to a five-goal advantage by halftime, with Antia Perez (5’), Dany Domingos (10’), Laura Córdoba (14’), Ale De Paz (15’), and Cecilia Zarzuela (20’) combining to put the match well out of reach before the break.

Marta López-Pardo (25’) and Noelia Montoro (29’) added two more after halftime, sealing Spain’s perfect 3–0 sweep of the group stage.

“It couldn’t be better,” said Spain head coach Claudia Pons. “This was one of our objectives — to play a good game, qualify, and continue gaining confidence in this World Cup.”

Colombia, bouncing back from a 5–1 defeat to Spain last Tuesday, was led by the stellar performance of Merlin Salcedo, who netted two goals for the Powerpuff Girls.

The 22-year-old scored in the 8th and 23rd minutes, building on teammate Diana Celis’ early opener in the 4th. Danna Rodriguez then capped Colombia’s win with a goal in the 35th minute.

Thailand, meanwhile, managed only one goal — a strike from Arriya Saetoen in the 11th minute.

“The girls are already fulfilling their dreams in the World Cup,” said Colombia coach Robert Bruno. “They believe they can keep moving forward. Every game is a learning experience, and I’m grateful for the love they show for the flag on their shirts. That’s what makes them fall in love with futsal.”

Spain topped Group B with nine points, followed by Colombia with six. Thailand and Canada finished third and fourth with three points and zero, respectively.
