Converge will not be taking its first foray into the Philippine Basketball Association lightly.
The newest member of the PBA family is tapping former PBA commissioner and chief executive officer Angelico “Chito” Tiu Salud to be its team governors for its first campaign this coming Season 47.
Multiple sources confirmed the development to Tiebreaker Times on Wednesday.
The sources also confirmed that the company owned by Dennis Anthony Uy will indeed be taking over the franchise of Alaska.
The announcement will be made during the halftime break of the Governors’ Cup quarterfinals game pitting Magnolia and Meralco later today.
Salud is no stranger to the league.
The 59-year-old lawyer out of Ateneo de Manila University and University of the Philippines was the league’s eighth commissioner, sitting on the post from 2010–2015.
During his last year as commissioner, the league promoted him as its CEO. He only had the position up until December of 2015.
Salud was also the President of the National Home Mortgage Finance Corporation during the Joseph Estrada administration, served as legal consultant for the Office of the Mayor in Makati, and an independent director of Petron Corporation.
Converge will have a tough task in building a competitive roster for Season 47 as only Jeron Teng, Ben Adamos, and Taylor Browne are the only ones under contract from the Alaska team. The rest of the former Aces are restricted free agents.
