SMART Omega, Nexplay headline Wild Rift Icon Series: Preseason

Reigning Wild Rift Asia Brawl champion Smart Omega Esports and grand finalist Nexplay Esports headline the invited teams for the Philippines in the League of Legends: Wild Rift Southeast Asia Icon Series: Preseason.

In a bid to restart the franchise, former Mobile Legends powerhouse Sunsparks will also field a squad in the three-day-long weekend tournament.

Foreign franchises RRQ and Team Secret will also banner a Filipino-laden squad. Completing the invited cast are Liyab Esports, Execration, and BREN Esports.

According to Riot, the remaining teams will be announced at a later date.

The tournament will kick off this coming February 26, Friday and will feature seven, location-specific tournament circuits in Vietnam, Thailand, Taiwan, Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, and the Philippines

“The Southeast Asia Icon Series is our first step to grow League of Legends: Wild Rift into a regional esport worthy of our players’ passion and skills,” said Chris Tran, Head of Esports for Riot Games Southeast Asia, Hong Kong, and Taiwan.

Right after the preseason, Riot Games Southeast Asia will be turning its focus on the Wild Rift Southeast Asia Icon Series: Summer season, an eight-week-long competition where local teams will fight for the regional crown.
