Smart Omega bounced back from last week’s setback with a dominant 2-0 sweep of Twisted Minds in Week 6 of MPL Philippines Season 16 on Saturday at the Green Sun Hotel in Makati City.
The victory propelled Omega to the fifth spot in the standings with a 4-6 record, overtaking TNC Pro Team, which also holds a 4-6 slate but trails in tiebreakers.
Omega coach Allec Monsseur “SN4P” Alvarado Alberto admitted that the team was caught off guard with Twisted Minds’ surprising draft composition.
Thankfully, their confidence in their own fundamentals paid off.
“Honestly, hindi (kami prepared against Twisted Minds’ Angela pick) kasi sa aming mga practices walang masyadong gumagamit ng Angela. Parang surprise pick siya samin,” revealed SN4P.
“More or less nagfocus lang kami sa team composition namin. Hindi namin tinitignan masyado Angela ng kalaban.”
In Game 1, James “Jeymz” Gloria (Esmeralda) set the tone with a maniac killing spree in just the second minute, helping Omega establish a 1,500-gold advantage by the fourth minute and seize control of the map.
Kennth “Netskie” Barro (Harith) sealed the opener by scoring two kills during a decisive base turret siege in the 13th minute, giving Omega a 1-0 lead.
In Game 2, Omega leaned on Salik “Hadji” Imam’s flawless positioning, highlighted by an 11th-minute Feathered Airstrike that secured the lord objective.
That proved to be the final objective team fight as Omega marched along the spawned lord midway through the 12th minute to complete the sweep in dominant fashion.
Twisted Minds absorbed their third loss in the last four matches but remained fourth with an even 5-5 card.
