SEA Games: Phillip Delarmino awarded muay gold after MAP’s successful protest

Phillip Delarmino is a back-to-back Southeast Asian Games champion after all.

After a successful appeal, the 2021 IMAF World Champion bagged his second straight gold in the men’s combat minus-57 kg, Sunday at the Vinh Phuc Gymnasium in Vinh Phuc, Vietnam.

Earlier, Delarmino was adjudged to finish with the silver, following a controversial 1-2 defeat to hometown bet Nguyen Doan Long.

The Muaythai Association of the Philippines led by Pearl Managuelod, though, knew that the reigning World Champion landed cleaner hits against the Vietnamese.

And upon review of the match, Delarmino was awarded the gold with Nguyen getting thr silver.

It was a rematch of the final three years ago where Delarmino also took down Nguyen.

The national muay team ended their Games campaign in Hanoi with two golds and five bronzes.

This is the country’s 52nd gold of the games.
