Caloy Yulo ended his second Southeast Asian Games stint with a flourish.
The 22-year-old gymnastics star wrapped up the 31st Southeast Asian Games with five golds and two silvers, annexing the title in the men’s horizontal bar with 13.867, Monday at the Quan Ngua Sports Palace in Hanoi, Vietnam.
After taking a break from participating in the apparatus after the 2019 Games in Manila, Yulo incorporated some more difficult release-catch elements into his routine, even adding some aerial somersaults, to get ready for future competitions.
The lead pulled through up to the penultimate gymnast before defending champion Dinh Phuong Thanh spoiled the party and shared the gold with the same 13.867 brought about by a high execution score.
Vietnam’s Le Thanh Tung rounded up the podium with 13.433, ahead of Filipino upstart Juancho Besana who got 12.100.
Chiara Andrew and Cristina Loberanes finished sixth and seventh in the women’s floor exercise, respectively, with 11.933 and 11.900 in that order.
