Ever since Alab Pilipinas made their debut in the ABL three years ago, there has always been one foil to the team — Sam Deguara.
But after stints with Thailand (Mono Vampire) and Hong Kong, the 7-foot-5 Italian-Maltese big man found his way to the Philippines, as Alab has tapped him for one of the team’s three imports.
And the 28-year-old was glad to finally don the red, white, and blue after fighting against them all this time.
“I feel proud that I’m representing the team. It’s a pleasure for me and I’m proud to represent them this time.”
Deguara made his Alab debut last Sunday when Alab took on Singapore at the Sta. Rosa Multipurpose Complex in Laguna. His debut, however, did not go as he’d envisioned.
He was plagued by fouls the entire game, but still managed to put up numbers of 12 points, 11 rebounds, and two blocks.
“I just have to get better for myself and play just how I know how.”
With this, Deguara looks to settle down with Alab the rest of the way. Moreover, he looks forward to finally claiming the crown that he eluded him over the past three years.
“I have to be in the right mindset. Stay focused for the next wars and I have to learn from my mistakes. Excited to give them a game and make them proud of those things we can do.”
