Prince Rivero has been signed by Alab Pilipinas for their title defense campaign in the 9th season of the ASEAN Basketball League.
Rivero was with carryovers Ray Parks, Jr., Renaldo Balkman, Oping Sumalinog, Josh Urbiztondo, Lawrence Domingo, and JR Albanza, and fellow new recruits PJ Ramos, Caelan Tiongson, and Brandon Rosser in the league’s press conference on Tuesday afternoon.
With this, the 23-year-old has foregone his collegiate eligibility as the ABL is a professional league. The 6-foot-4 bruiser ended his amateur career with stats of 6.7 points and 5.4 rebounds in 64 games played.
Last January, Prince – together with brother Ricci and good friend Brent Paraiso – ‘asked for a leave of absence’ from De La Salle University. Ricci then decided to transfer to the University of the Philippines, while Paraiso went to the University of Santo Tomas later on.
For his part, Prince did not leave La Salle, instead choosing to double-body as a student and as a player for MPBL club team Mandaluyong El Tigre.
Rivero had an option to transfer to a non-UAAP school, as a year in residency does not count for leagues like the NCAA, NAASCU, and UCBL.
