PLDT sweeps Cignal, ends PVL campaign in seventh place

BACARRA, ILOCOS NORTE — PLDT capped its Premier Volleyball League Open Conference campaign on a high note, taking down Cignal via a 25-20, 25-14, 25-19 sweep for its third-straight win on Friday night at the PCV Socio-Civic and Cultural Center here.

The Power Hitters ended the conference at the seventh spot with a 3-6 standing.

“Siyempre masaya talaga ako kasi nanalo kami nang sunod sunod tapos puro straight sets pa,” said PLDT head coach Roger Gorayeb.

Chin Basas and Yeye Gabarda scored consecutive hits to put PLDT at match-point, 24-19, before Aiko Urdas sealed the deal with an ace.

Isa Molde spearheaded the win with 16 points off twelve attacks, three aces, and a block along with 22 excellent digs and nine excellent receptions.

Eli Soyud and Jorelle Singh added 12 and 11 points, respectively, while Rhea Dimaculangan glued things together with 27 excellent sets along with four points.

“Ang tagal nag click nung mga bata e dito na sa dulo hindi sa bandang unahan, yung mga malalakas na nakakalaban namin nakaka four sets four sets kami, nadidikitan namin e. Sana lang kung mahaba haba or nauna itong mga huling kalaban namin mas maganda siguro,” lamented Gorayeb.

On the other hand, May Luna led Cignal with seven points while Janine Marciano and Roselyn Doria each had six markers.

The HD Spikers are currently tied with Perlas at the last spot with identical 1-7 slates.

Cignal will end its PVL campaign tomorrow, Saturday against Black Mamba-Army at 7:00 PM.
