Plania wins vacant WBF international belt; Moralde survives Aducal late surge

Undefeated prospect John Vincent Moralde survived a late surge from the very gutsy Jimmy Aducal to come out with a split decision victory in SanMan boxing promotions’ Brawl at the Mall held at the Makati Cinema Square, Makati City Saturday evening.

Scheduled for a ten round non-title affair, the WBC Asia and WBF International featherweight champion looked on his way for another victory in the early goings of the bout, landing well-placed punches to Aducal.

The Tiger City/X-Con standout had other plans though. Already with a swollen face after the punches he sustained, Aducal started turning the momentum to his favor by landing his own version of overhands and hooks to the Davao City-native. The rally was highlighted by a knockdown in the ninth round, awakening the sizable crowd in attendance.

After the dust had settled, and unfortunately for Aducal, it was only judge Jerrold Tomeldan who scored the bout in his favor, 95-94. As judges Robert Bridges and Dionis Jacobe both scored it in Moralde’s favor, 95-94 and 96-93 respectively.

In the final bout of the evening, “Magic” Mike Plania overcame Makati City’s own Lorence Rosas and the hometown crowd with a 94-94, 96-92 and 95-93 majority decision victory to capture the vacant World Boxing Federation International Bantamweight title.

The victory marks Plania’s tenth straight victory since making his professional debut. Meanwhile, Rosas suffered his first defeat in eight fights.

In the undercard, Pacific Xtreme Combat bantamweight champion Jenel Lausa made quick work of MJ Sales Boxing Stable’s Roy Lagrada with a flurry of power punches to end the fight via first round TKO.
