Kaya-Iloilo had a solid start to its 2024–25 AFC Women’s Champions League campaign, earning a 0-0 draw against Thailand’s College of Asian Scholars on Sunday night at the BG Stadium in Pathum Thani.
Featuring a lineup packed with former and current UAAP standouts, Kaya-Iloilo came out aggressively from the opening whistle.
Anicka Castañeda, Bhebe Lemoran, and Dionesa Tolentin each had chances to score in the first half, but none were able to find the back of the net.
The second half followed a similar pattern, with both teams creating scoring opportunities.
Tolentin came close for Kaya, forcing a sharp save from CAS goalkeeper Yada Sengyong.
At the other end, UAAP Season 79 champion goalkeeper Inna Palacios made a crucial stop, denying a header from Kanchanaporn Saenkhun to preserve the clean sheet.
In the end, both teams had to settle for a point in Group B, which is currently led by Australia’s Melbourne City after their 2-1 win over Iran’s Bam Khatoon Women’s Football Club earlier in the day.
Kaya-Iloilo will return to action on Wednesday at 5:00 PM against Bam Khatoon. Meanwhile, the College of Asian Scholars will face Melbourne City later that evening at 9:00 PM.
Both matches take place at the same venue.
