ONE Championship just signed a major player in the welterweight division.
Saygid Izagakhmaev will be the newest addition to the already-loaded roster of The Home Of Martial Arts. He takes his 19-2 record (14 finishes) to the organization while he looks to make a name for himself as a bonafide global superstar.
Izagakhmaev trains out of American Kickboxing Academy, home to ONE Heavyweight World Champion “Singh” Arjan Bhullar. His teammate and good friend Khabib Nurgamomedov excitedly announced the news on social media, as the Russian grappler looks to make his debut by December.
“My brother Saygid Izagakhmaev has signed a contract with ONE Championship and his next fight will be [in] December,” the former UFC World Champion said. He also thanked ONE Chairman and CEO Chatri Sityodtong for making this signing happen.
“Thank you so much Chatri. It would be impossible without you. See you my friend, it was nice to meet you.”
To which Sityodtong responded: “Thank you for everything, Khabib. See you soon!”
Staying at welterweight means that he will be gunning for fellow grappling machine and ONE Welterweight World Champion Kiamrian “Brazen” Abbasov. On the other hand, he could drop down to lightweight and make things interesting there.
If he moves to lightweight, he’ll be joining an already-crowded division ruled by newly-minted ONE Lightweight World Champion Ok Rae Yoon. Meanwhile, several big names – including fellow Dagestanis Saygid “Dagi” Guseyn Arslanaliev and Marat “Cobra” Gafurov – are hot on the tail.
In the meantime, catch ONE: First Strike on One Sports or One Sports+ at 8:30 p.m. Philippine Standard Time (PHT) on Friday, 15 October.
It will also air simultaneously on the ONE Super App and ONE’s YouTube channel.
