MPL PH: Smart Omega stays hot with reverse sweep of Onic

Smart Omega continued with their resurgence scoring back-to-back victories with a 2-1 conquest of Onic Philippines in Week 5 of the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Professional League (MPL) Philippines Season 11 on Saturday.

Omega climbed to a tie-for-fifth with Nexplay Evos (3-5) after improving to 10 points while limiting Onic to the seventh spot with seven points.

Assistant coach Patrick “E2max” Caidic reminded the team after a lackluster decision-making in the late game led to a Game 1 defeat.

“Before, kami kahit na wala na kaming tower, yun lang. Patience lang kasi magkakamali’t magkakamali yang kalaban which is yun nga nangyari sa kanila (nung Game 1),” shared coach E2max referring to the days of their comeback kings moniker.

“Pinaalala lang namin ulit na kailangan sure kayo. Kung matatapos niyo yung game, kelangan sure na sure kayo na alam niyong matatapos. Wag kayong dadating sa point na magririsk kayo kasi lamang tayo eh. So dapat hindi tayo naghahigh risk.”

In the opener, Onic clutched a 31st-minute base turret defense and fended off Omega’s last hurrah with a 5-3 wipeout anchored on Nowie “Ryota” Macasa’s (Terizla) double kill.

They quickly marched onto the enemy base in the ensuing sequence to score the massive reverse and pull ahead, 1-0.

Game 2 boiled down to a 16th-minute isolation play in the midlane outer turret where Duane “Kelra” Pillas (Brody) scored a double kill followed by a timely Final Slash execution by Renz “Renzio” Cadua (Arlott) to extend it into a 4-0 trade-off.

Kelra nabbed all the kills in that final sequence to force the rubber match, 1-1.

Kelra once again delivered a stellar performance in the rubber match, finishing with a perfect 4-0-3 KDA during a 14-minute win.
