Duane “Kelra” Pillas proved to be the hero that Omega Esports needed, securing a crucial Maniac in Game Three to lead the tight 2-1 win over ONIC PH in the MPL Philippines Season Nine on Friday night.
With Kairi “Kairi” Rayosdelsol’s Aulus leading the charge in Game Three, ONIC PH shredded through the Luminous Lord with ease but Patrick “E2MAX” Caidic’s Kagura managed to steal the objective in the 14:16-minute mark.
That bought Omega Esports some time to mount a comeback, but ONIC PH had a free run at the Luminous Lord anew past the 17th minute.
Kelra’s Beatrix went off from there, going for the Maniac in Omega Esports’ exhilarating tower defense to complete the team’s bounce-back victory.
He finished with six kills, a death, and an assist in the 11-15 Game Three win in 19 minutes and 12 seconds.
After dropping all of its series via sweep, Omega Esports finally scored its first series win of the season after an 11-7 Game One performance in 15 minutes and 16 seconds.
Dean “Raizen” Sumagui, who has been struggling for the past two weeks, bounced back and put up his best performance yet in Season Nine playing Lancelot.
An aggressive showing from Raizen keyed the Smart-backed squad’s early advantage over ONIC PH. Allen “Baloyskie” Baloy’s Natalia scored crucial kills on Kelra’s Beatrix and E2MAX’s Selena late in the match, but it was not enough as Omega Esports bagged the first two Lords to end the match.
E2MAX delivered a game-high seven assists along with three kills and two deaths while Raizen had four kills and five assists against just one death.
Omega Esports had another strong start in Game Two, but a crucial Luminous Lord steal from Jaylord “Hatred” Gonzales’ Kagura in the 13:22-minute mark stalled the game for ONIC PH.
Things took a sour turn for Omega Esports when ONIC PH completed a wipe past the 17:30-minute mark which paved the way for a free Luminous Lord.
Marky “Markyyyyy” Capacio’s Beatrix then capped off the comeback win, securing the final Luminous Lord in the 22:16-minute mark while also bagging the last three kills.
He finished with four kills and seven assists against one death in the 15-19 Game Two victory in 22 minutes and 58 seconds.
The Smart-backed team (1-3) tied Blacklist International (0-4) at the sixth spot with two points each while ONIC PH remained at the fifth spot with five points and a 2-2 slate.
Omega Esports looks to continue its fine form against Nexplay EVOS tomorrow at 8:00 PM while ONIC PH will take on TNC on Sunday at 6:00 PM.
