MPL PH: Kelra, K1ngkong lead ONIC PH to vengeful win over Team Liquid

ONIC Philippines avenged last season’s Grand Finals loss with a commanding 2-0 sweep over Team Liquid PH in Week 1 of MPL Philippines Season 16 on Saturday at the Green Sun Hotel in Makati City.

In the process, ONIC snapped TLPH’s undefeated streak which started from last season’s grand finals and went on throughout the entirety of the MLBB Mid Season Cup (MSC) 2025 during the Esports World Cup.

According to head coach Tony “Ynot” Senedrin, it was the MSC experience that carried today’s performance.

“Yung pagkatalo namin si MSC,” Ynot cited as the main factor that led to their vengeful victory over Team Liquid PH.

The Sonics set the tone in Game 1, dominating the early stages by securing all the turtle buffs and taking the first Lord to build a 4,000 net worth lead.

Duane “Kelra” Pillas (Bruno) and King “K1NGKONG” Perez (Lancelot) each scored a double kill during the 12th-minute Lord fight, leading to a flawless 5-for-0 wipeout and giving ONIC a 1-0 series advantage.

Game 2 proved to be a tighter contest, but Frince “Super Frince” Ramirez’s (Selena) back-to-back Abyssal Arrows that hit Jaypee “Jaypee” Dela Cruz (Gatotkaca) and Karl “KarlTzy” Nepomuceno (Yi Sun Shin) during the 18th-minute Lord fight paved the way for ONIC to pull through.

The stun provided by Super Frince enabled Kelra (Claude) to score a pick off that touched off a match-winning 3-for-0 finish.

ONIC will take a few days off before plunging back to action against AP.Bren on Friday, August 29.
