To avoid further drama in their Governors’ Cup campaign, the top-seeded Meralco Bolts have decided to suspend five-year pro Kelly Nabong after he went on a tirade last Sunday during the team’s 72-66 Game 1 win over the Star Hotshots last Sunday.
“Kelly Nabong is suspended indefinitely for conduct unbecoming of a PBA player and for conduct detrimental to the team,” Bolts management released in a statement Tuesday afternoon.
The suspension begins tonight, when the Bolts take on the Hotshots in Game 2 of their best-of-five series at the Sta. Rosa Sports Complex in Laguna.
The two were seen trading words from opposite ends of the bench, just moments after having a one-on-one talk.
Nabong did not join the team during the post-game exchange of pleasantries with Star, immediately bolting for the locker room.
Witnesses at the Alonte told Tiebreaker Times that Nabong had destroyed the pane of their locker room’s door at the Alonte Sports Arena before storming off.
Nabong is averaging 2.85 points and 3.15 rebounds this conference.
