Meralco now hopes for the best after Raymond Almazan’s injury in Game Two of their Honda PBA Philippine Cup semifinals tiff with Magnolia, Wednesday night.
Bolts team manager Paolo Trillo said that the 6-foot-8 big man will undergo an x-ray on his left ankle, which he hurt at the 8:10-mark of the third canto.
“He’s on his way now to get an X-ray,” he told Tiebreaker Times.
Almazan landed badly after a joust for the rebound. He could no longer stand on his own and needed help out on his way to the bench.
He did not return afterwards, leaving with only six points, three rebounds, and an assist. The eight-year pro played for a total of 17 minutes and 30 seconds.
The situation then turned from bad to worse for the Bolts afterward, though. They also lost Cliff Hodge due to a flagrant foul before the period ended.
The veteran big man hit the showers prematurely as earning a technical foul earlier in the game.
Without two of their top big men, Meralco lost, 78-92.
It remains to be seen what Almazan’s status will be for Game Three on Friday, where the Bolts will try to avoid falling to a 0-3 hole in the race-to-four series.
