Mark Striegl’s biggest dream was shattered by something beyond his control.
The 2019 Southeast Asian Games gold medalist in combat sambo was bumped off the UFC Fight Night: Munhoz vs. Edgar card after testing positive for the coronavirus (COVID-19).
The bout was supposed to take place on Sunday (Manila time) at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Striegl (18-2) has been in Las Vegas for the last month in hopes of getting that UFC contract.
Last week, the 32-year-old Baguio native was able to get a four-fight deal that should have begun with a three-round bantamweight bout against fellow newcomer Timur Valiev (16-2).
However, he tested positive during the mandatory test.
Striegl is now isolated and in a safe place.
Valiev will instead face Trevin Jones (12-6).
On the other hand, Striegl’s first-ever UFC bout will have to wait another day.
