Lian Ramiro ready to succeed Evan Nelle, Mark Nonoy at La Salle

Fresh from the United States and in just his first game for De La Salle University, Lian Ramiro witnessed the grit and grind of UAAP basketball.

As the Green Archers came back from a 10-point deficit in the fourth quarter, the 5-foot-11 point guard from University of Arkansas-Fort Smith experienced a thrilling match-up in their stunning 77-74 victory over the University of the East Red Warriors at the Filoil EcoOil 17th ECJ Preseason Cup.

Notching five points, two rebounds, and two assists in his debut outing for DLSU, the one-and-done recruit was ecstatic after their win via a Kevin Quiambao buzzer-beater following a 14-0 outburst to close out the game.

“It’s been fun, this was a fun game for my first game,” Ramiro said.

Ramiro shared that he had only started practicing with La Salle on Sunday morning after arriving in the Philippines.

However, after only 48 hours of breathing the Manila air, he shared that it’s been a smooth process entering the lineup.

“My teammates, they make it easy. The coaches, they make me feel welcome here. I’m just grateful to be in this position now. I’m excited for whatever’s next,” said Ramiro, donning his Air Jordan 11 lows.

Moreover, he admitted that he has high expectations entering La Salle, following the departure of veteran leaders Evan Nelle and Mark Nonoy.

Their departure had left the point guard spot in a precarious position heading into UAAP Season 87.

“It is big shoes to fill and the pressure’s there, but I think I’m able to fill those shoes. You know, it’s big ups to them, but I’m gonna work hard and do what the team wants me to do and just play my best to help the team win,” the fresh transferee affirmed.

Following this game, Ramiro hopes to get more accustomed to life in the Philippines after returning from a long journey abroad.

“I’m excited just getting to know my team, the coaches, and getting better, and just finally living the Filipino lifestyle. It’s my first time here in a while so I’m excited.”
