Lewis-Tybura heavyweight clash to co-main event UFC Manila

The Ultimate Fighting Championship has confirmed the co-main event of UFC Fight Night Manila 2: Penn vs. Lamas.

The three-round, heavyweight bout pitting knockout artists Derrick “The Black Beast” Lewis (16-4) and Marcin “Tybur” Tybura” (14-2) will serve as the prelude to the much-anticipated featherweight match-up pitting living MMA legend “The Prodigy” BJ Penn (16-10-2) and fifth ranked featherweight Ricardo “The Bully” Lamas (16-5).

“We are very excited to return to Manila and for our fans to witness this epic battle between a true MMA legend in B.J. Penn and former Featherweight title challenger Ricardo Lamas.

“UFC Fight Night Manila: Lamas vs. Penn is an event that can’t be missed by fans and followers of the sport. We encourage everyone to book their seats for another action-packed night of fights,” executive vice president and general manager of UFC Asia, Kenneth Berger said.

Lewis, a native of Houston, Texas, is 7-2 in the UFC and has just recently won his biggest fight in his career, taking a split decision win against Ultimate Fighter 10 winner Roy Nelson. In his 16 wins, he has only gone the full length once – finishing his opponent by knockout 14 times. He has also won a Performance of the Night bonus after finishing Gabriel Gonzaga last April.

His opponent, Polish fighter Marcin Tybura, is one of the brightest heavyweight prospects in the world today. Just 30 years old, “Tybur” has displayed an all-around game in his career, knocking out six of his opponents while submitting six as well. Tybura though dropped his UFC debut last April before bouncing back with an emphatic KO win over Viktor Pesta last August.

Besides the two bouts, a flyweight showdown between Japan’s own title contender, number 3 ranked Kyoji Horiguchi (17-2-0, fighting out of Coconut Creek, Florida USA) and number 8 ranked Ali Bagautinov (14-4-0, fighting out of Dagestan, Republic of Russia) has also been confirmed for the event.

UFC FIGHT NIGHT Manila 2: LAMAS VS. PENN will be held at the Mall of Asia Arena this October 15, 2016.
