Kelra powers ONIC PH past TNC, bolsters MPL PH playoff push

Defending champion ONIC PH completed its regular season sweep of TNC following a tight 2-0 victory in the second round of the MPL Philippines Season 15, Friday night at the Green Sun Hotel in Makati City.

Led by Duane “Kelra” Pillas, the reigning world champs extended their winning streak to four games to improve their record to 5-3.

The MPL PH Season 14 Finals MVP delivered a clean performance on Granger in the opener, helping ONIC PH escape a hard-fighting TNC for the 1-0 advantage.

After multiple attempts, ONIC PH finally got a clean crack at TNC’s base after securing the third Lord of the contest entering the 18th minute. Jann “Kirk” Gutierrez (Gloo) went down in the process, but the team managed to pick off Jhon “JM” Sebastian (Badang) to make it a four-on-four defense.

From there, ONIC PH simply overpowered TNC during the siege, finally putting an end to the match at 18:15-mark en route to a close 10-9 Game 1 triumph.

Kelra tallied a game-high seven kills on top of one assist without a single death, while King “K1ngkong” Perez (Joy) had three kills and two assists against one death in the opener.

It was Kelra who got ONIC PH over the hump anew in Game 2, as he scored a double kill on Harith in a pivotal Lord clash entering the 23rd minute that ultimately secured the win for his squad.

With the fourth Lord up for grabs, ONIC PH and TNC went all in and engaged in a clash. However, K1ngkong (Suyou) managed to outwit Tristan “Yawi” Cabrera (Chou), evading a crucial stun which kick-started the free-for-all.

ONIC PH managed to take down Yawi, Lance “LanceCy” Cunanan (Zhask), and Benedict “Bennyqt” Gonzales before going for the game-winning siege.

Kelra came up with 10 kills against just one death to lead the win.

ONIC PH will return on Saturday night, taking on Aurora in a rematch of the Season 14 grand finals.

Meanwhile, TNC absorbed its fourth consecutive loss to slip to 3-5 in the standings.
