ABL first-timers Kaohsiung Truth made their first major pick-up
Former University of the Philippines Fighting Maroon Mikee Reyes is set to join Taiwan-based club team Kaohsiung Truth, according to the league’s official website.
“I’m just really excited to continue playing the game I love,” Reyes said. “I was blessed enough for the Kaohsiung Truth to take a chance on me and hopefully I won’t let them down.”
Reyes was the fifth round pick in the recently-concluded 2016 PBA Draft, but did not make TNT KaTropa’s final cut. He last played for PCBL club team Foton back in 2015.
The 5-foot-10 floor general, however, will join a struggling Truth squad. In their first two games of the season, Kaohsiung have lost by an average of 19.5 points per outing.
Truth CEO Wesley Hsu is hoping that Reyes’ addition will turn the team’s fortunes.
“I met Mikee in Kaohsiung,” Hsu said. “He was the nicest guy and he expressed interest in practicing with our team.”
“They may have lost both games, but I saw their potential and what they can do,” Reyes added. “I believe all they need is someone to lead them and someone who will be able to distribute the ball to their main guys. Hopefully, I can bring that to the table.”
Reyes is set to make his Truth debut on Sunday, December 4, as they face Alab Pilipinas at the Baliwag Star Arena in Bulacan.
