Jovelyn Gonzaga is just one of two players listed in both the women’s teams of the indoor and beach volleyball pools for the tryouts set on April 28-30 in Subic.
But is she forgoing her spot with the indoor pool? Gonzaga wants to.
A few hours after the unveiling of the pool, the 29-year-old Ilongga posted a story on her Instagram account — an appreciation post for the invite.
However, the enlisted army personnel shared that “it was time for her to take a new path.”
“Thank you indoor volleyball,” she expressed.
“That was a great journey with you [but] for now it’s time for me to take a new route.”
Gonzaga is one of eight opposite spikers invited by the Philippine National Volleyball Federation.
With her request, Gonzaga also asked if the federation could give her spot to someone else.
“Bigay na natin sa mas karapat-dapat. Para sa bayan.”
Back in 2015, Gonzaga, a two-time V-League Most Valuable Player, was the captain of the women’s national volleyball team for the 2015 Southeast Asian Games.
During that time, she also made waves in the beach volleyball scene.
Gonzaga made her national team return back in 2019 during the inaugural ASEAN Grand Prix.
