Former Letran big man Jimly Lantaya (October 20, 2000 – August 2, 2025) has passed away on Saturday after a months-long battle with a heart condition.
He was only 24 years old.
Lantaya was diagnosed with thoracic aortic aneurysm earlier this year and underwent surgery last March. During that time, he took to social media to seek financial help for his medical bills at the Philippine Heart Center.

Four months later, the towering 6-foot-9 center lost his battle with the illness.
Lantaya first made his mark in the UAAP as a member of Goldwin Monteverde’s NU Bullpups program during Season 82.
He later played collegiate basketball for the Letran Knights under Coach Bonnie Tan, contributing to the team’s run during his time.
He also had a professional stint with the General Santos Warriors in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League.
On Saturday, former teammates and friends took to social media to mourn his passing and remember the joy he brought both on and off the court.
“RIP #15 isa sa pinaka masayang tao na nakilala ko. Paalam mossing vic! Paalam champ!” wrote Fran Yu.
“Salamat sa pagpapasaya mo sa lahat ng nakapaligid sayo! Love you pare, mamimiss ka namin ng sobra!” added Kyle Tolentino.
