EJ Obiena resets PH indoor record in Poland

EJ Obiena continues to soar higher and higher in his quest for Olympic glory.

Obiena cleared a Philippine-record 5.86-meters in his third attempt for a silver finish in the 2021 Orlen Indoor Cup at the Atlas Arena in Poland, Saturday morning (Manila time).

The previous national record was set at 5.80-meters – also by Obiena last February 6, 2020 in Berlin, Germany.

This also marks the 25-year-old’s personal best. His previous career jump was 5.81m, which he set in Chiara, Italy on September 3, 2019.

Sam Kendricks of USA won the event by also clearing 5.86m, doing so in his first attempt.

Thiago Braz of Brazil completed the podium with a 5.80m.
