The coach who sparked a renaissance with the UP Lady Maroons gets his second high-profile collegiate coaching gig as Jerry Yee debuted as the College of Saint Benilde Lady Blzaers’ new head coach.
The silent mentor nearly scored an upset in the PVL Collegiate Conference as his Lady Blazers fell short in five sets against the FEU Lady Tamaraws, Sunday evening.
“Well, may mga small points na we were looking at. ‘Yung mga first touches natin sa depensa at opensa, hindi naman tayo nage-error doon. Sabi natin sa girls very happy na ako sa ganun,” said Yee of the loss.
Yee last coached collegiate volleyball in the UAAP, guiding the Lady Maroons out of a decade-long Final Four drought in Season 78 before departing in Season 79.
The Petro Gazz Angels head coach relishes the challenge of retooling an NCAA squad.
“Maliit siya compared sa normal UAAP team, pero ganun e. Trabaho tayo,” said Yee of his initial assessment of the Lady Blazers.
“I have no idea (how it is in the NCAA).Nagtatanong-tanong na ako, nakikipagkwentuhan sa mga coach.
” ‘Di ko pa nae-experience so wala pa akong masyadong comment about it. Right now we’re just focused on preparing the team. Hopefully, maganda showing namin,” he closed.
