Jalen Green limited to just eight as Ignite suffers fifth loss in G League

Filipino-American stud Jalen Green saw his double-digit streak snapped in Ignite’s 92-120 loss at the hands of Delaware in the 2021 G League Season, Tuesday (Manila time) at AdventHealth Arena.

Green only had eight points in the contest on 4-of-13 shooting from the field. He went 0-of-7 from downtown while committing four errors.

Rayjon Tucker and Braxton Key paced the Blue Coats, who shot 48.6-percent from three-point range — the highest percentage by an Ignite opponent this season.

Cody Demps and Bobby Brown combined for five three-pointers in the first quarter as Ignite shot just 8-of-22 from the floor. On the other hand, Delaware shot 14-of-22 from the field to build an early 13-point lead, 34-21.

Delaware continued its hot shooting in the second quarter. They went 50 percent with six three-pointers to lead 69-44 at the break. Ignite’s rookies shot just a combined 5-of-23 from the field and accounted for only 10 of the teams 44 points, but Demps was a perfect 5-of-5 for 14 points in the first half.

Amir Johnson led Ignite with eight points in the third, but Delaware turned in another 30-plus point quarter. They stretched its lead to 103-69, with Tucker and Key both nearing the 20-point mark individually. The Blue Coats capitalized with another seven three-pointers, shooting 63.6 percent (7-11) from beyond the arc.

Ignite managed to hold the Blue Coats to only seven field goals for 17 points in the fourth quarter. Still, the defensive outburst was too late to overcome a 30-point deficit.

Jonathan Kuminga scored 15 of his 19 points in the second half and pulled down 11 rebounds. He also added four assists and a block for Ignite, which fell to 7-5 for seventh place.

It was the veterans who carried Ignite most of the way through. Demps shot 4-of-5 from downtown to tally a season-high 14 points. Brandon Ashley also scored 14 and added six rebounds, and Reggie Hearn turned in a season-best nine points

Rayjon Tucker and Braxton Key paced the 8-4 Blue Coats.

Ignite returns to the court against Agua Caliente on Thursday.
