Jalen Green, Ignite suffer first loss in G League

Ignite were handed their first-ever loss in the G League, bowing to Erie in an 87-127 rout, Thursday morning (Manila time) at AdventHealth Arena.

Coming off two straight 20-point games, Jalen Green was limited to just 13 points on 6-of-15 shooting with four rebounds, four assists, two steals, and a block. He was a minus-37 in the game.

Carrying the cudgels for the young squad were Jonathan Kuminga and Daishen Nix.

Kuminga scored 21 points and added a career-best 10 boards, and Nix put up 13 points and a game-high 11 boards off the bench. Jalen Green also finished with 13 points alongside four rebounds, four assists, two steals, and a blocked shot.

Erie jumped out to a 21-point lead in the first quarter, capitalizing on five turnovers and connecting on five treys while Ignite shot 0-of-7 from three-point range. The Bayhawks led 35-16 after the first 12 minutes and continued their charge the remainder of the half to gain a 66-37 cushion.

The Bayhawks stretched their lead to 96-60 after the third, and Kuminga remained the lone Ignite player in double figures until Nix and Green turned in their best 12 minutes of action in the fourth quarter.

Naji Marshall led the Bayhawks with 21 points as one of six Erie players to score in double figures. Erie, the G League’s top offensive team, shot 53.8 percent from the floor and scored 36 points off Ignite’s 20 turnovers.

Ignite looks to rebound in its second game of the back-to-back, Friday at 8:00AM against the Westchester Knicks.
