The Games and Amusements Board has made the tough call of suspending the Mindanao leg of the 2021 Pilipinas VisMin Super Cup, Sunday.
Moreover, GAB also put the upstart league under re-evaluation.
This comes in the wake of the controversial game between Siquijor and ARQ Builders-Lapu Lapu last Wednesday.
“The Games and Amusements Board today suspended the Mindanao leg of the VisMin cup and put the league for re-evaluation.
“We are in the process of investigation and seriously looking into the allegations of wrongdoing. The board would like to further observe the ongoing Visayas leg before giving a go signal for the other [competition],” said Chairman Baham Mitra.
Currently the Visayas Leg of the regional professional league is still ongoing with six teams after Siquijor’s ejection.
The Mindanao tourney would have begun after the Visayas leg. It currently has nine teams in the Basilan Peace Riders, Cagayan De Oro Rafters, the Zamboanga Los Valientes, the Pagadian Explorers, the Roxas Vanguards, Sindagan Saints, and teams from Tawi-Tawi; Valencia City, Bukidnon; and Ozamis.
The league had scheduled tip-off on May 20 in Dipolog.
The top teams of the Mindanao and Visayas legs would then figure in a crossover finals to determine the inaugural champion of the league.
GAB is also set to collate all the reports of their ground personnel in Alcantara.
“In the meantime, GAB is reviewing the official reports of its field officers in the bubble and that of the League to determine the administrative liability of the licensees as well as the possibility of proceeding with criminal charges if warranted by the circumstances,” said Mitra.
“Our mandate is to ensure the integrity of professional sports/welfare of players and were doing just that.”
