ONE Championship just made one of its biggest signings on Tuesday.
Confirming multiple reports that circulated over the weekend, Chairman Chatri Sityodtong announced that former UFC World Lightweight Champion Eddie Alvarez (29-6) will join ONE.
Alvarez, who is formerly a UFC and Bellator world champion, has one goal in mind – to become the first fighter in history to be a three-promotion world champion.
“Please join me in welcoming Eddie Alvarez (29-6) to ONE Championship!” Sityodtong said in a Facebook post. “Eddie is not only one of the greatest lightweights in history, but he is the only athlete in history to win world titles in both UFC and Bellator.
“His goal is to become the only person to win all three major world titles in the largest global promotions in history.”
Last July, Alvarez fought his last fight in the UFC, absorbing a second round TKO loss against Dustin Poirier.
Still, he is one of the top five lightweights in the world.
“Eddie has fought and beaten some of the greatest martial artists and world champions on the planet, including Rafael dos Anjos, Anthony Pettis, Michael Chandler, Gilbert Melendez, Shinya Aoki, Patricky Freire, Roger Huerta, and many others.”
