Dzi Gervacio’s return to indoor volleyball came as a surprise to many – not because of her comeback, but because of the team she joined.
The 30-year-old Ateneo product was revealed as one of the newest members of F2 Logistics on January 10.
The Ramil De Jesus-mentored squad is known to have a La Salle-laden roster composition with the likes of Kianna Dy, Majoy Baron, Kim Fajardo, Dawn Macandili, and Aby Maraño.
So signing with the Cargo Movers came as a shocker, but that’s what Gervacio really wanted to do – get out of her comfort zone.
“Right now the goal mainly is for growth,” said Gervacio on The Chasedown last Saturday.
“They say you gotta push yourself to go outside your comfort zone and playing under coach Ramil and a team whose core is mostly La Salle players, I think that’s the most uncomfortable zone that I can be in.”
The 2019 PVL Reinforced Conference Best Opposite Spiker decided to focus on beach volleyball in 2021, going full-time with Creamline Beach Volleyball.
With a year of no Taraflex action and all sand, Gervacio knows she has a lot of adjusting to do.
“I always think that they are two different sports although it’s same na volleyball. Definitely two different disciplines,” the 5-foot-7 spiker shared.
That’s why Gervacio’s going even further, doubling her efforts to regain the skills she needs before the 2022 Open Conference of the Premier Volleyball League rolls around this February.
“As much as possible I stay ready naman. I try to go beyond what’s asked kasi for me it’s a transition from beach to indoor volleyball. Yung volume of jumps iba, yung surface iba, yung biomechanics iba.”
