Jov Fernandez joins Cignal; Joy Dacoron signs with Petro Gazz

Cignal continued its off-season haul, signing Jovelyn Fernandez for the 2024 Premier Volleyball League season.

The HD Spikers made the announcement on Wednesday.

Fernandez, 22, was part of F2 Logistics last season, joining fellow rookies Jolina Dela Cruz and Mars Alba.

However, the Cargo Movers disbanded last month.

The UAAP Season 85 Best Opposite Spiker is glad to be picked up by HD Spikers, where she will get to learn under former Far Eastern University head coach Shaq Delos Santos and other ex-Lady Tamaraws like Gel Cayuna and Chin Basas.

“Sobrang happy to be a part of this Cignal team, especially with how they finished strong in the last two conferences sa PVL,” she said.

“Looking forward din ako na matuto kay coach Shaq and sa ates ko na galing din sa FEU. I’m excited to learn new things and kung paano ko madadala sa next level yung laro ko through his help and with the whole coaching staff dito sa Cignal.”

Fernandez added that having fellow former Cargo Mover Dawn Macandili will also help in her transition.

For his part, Delos Santos vowed to help in the continued development of Fernandez.

“As one of the more experienced teams dito sa PVL, sobrang swerte namin to get one of the youngest players in Jovelyn this year. Hopefully, we can continue to develop her and help her reach yung full potential niya dito sa professional level,” said Delos Santos.

After dabbling with pageantry, the former Adamson University made her return to the PVL with F2 Logistics in the Second All-Filipino Conference where she only tallied a total of 19 points on 11 attacks, six blocks, and two aces for the entire tournament.

Dacoron is set to strengthen the Angels’ middle blocker rotation that is set to miss Ranya Musa, who tore her right ACL in the season-ending conference.
