China suffered a tough blow leading up to the 2022 FIBA Asia Cup.
Per reports, Zhou Qi and several members of the team tested positive for COVID-19 after playing in the recent FIBA World Cup Qualifiers in Australia.
Qi and some of his teammates are still in Melbourne receiving treatment while the remaining members have flown to Indonesia for the continental showpiece.
Those who tested positive, though, will be able to rejoin the team in Jakarta once they recover before the tilt kicks off, Xinhua reported.
To address Team Dragon’s personnel problems, the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) has added five players to its roster.
Fan Ziming, Zhai Xiaochuan, Jiang Weize, Gao Shiyan, and He Xining are the latest additions to the team mentored by Du Feng.
China is in Group B together with Chinese Taipei, Korea, and Bahrain in the upcoming Asia Cup festivities happening on July 12-24.
The Chinese will be among those set to open the tournament as they take on the Koreans on the 12th at 8 p.m. (Manila time).
