Johnriel Casimero once again showed why he is the reigning International Boxing Federation World Flyweight champion with a 10th round stoppage of Charlie Edwards in the undercard of the Gennady Golovkin-Kell Brook title clash at the O2 Arena in London, England early Saturday morning.
Casimero imposed his will right away, unloading hard shots to the British challenger. This strategy prevented his opponent to setup his game plan from the onset.
In the second round, Edwards tried to fire some offense only to be evaded by Casimero, At one point getting caught by a straight right from the champion.
“Quatro Alas” continued to assert himself in the succeeding rounds with his quickness and vast ring experience to keep Edwards at bay.
The 26 year old’s onslaught went on until midway into the tenth round where he dropped Edwards with a huge left. Edwards managed to stand before the eight count but was immediately smothered by the Ormoc-native which forced the referee to end the bout at 1:57 mark of the round.
The win marks Casimero’s 23rd victory, successfully making his first title defense of the belt he won last May against Amnat Ruenroeng.
On the other hand, the 23-year old goes back to the drawing board after seeing his eight fight win streak.
