Two big cards involving two Filipino world champions have been called off by Top Rank promotions due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
Top Rank’s events at the Cosmopolitan Resort and Casino in Las Vegas on April 11, headlined by Ancajas; and at the Mandalay Bay, also in Las Vegas, on April 25 headlined by Casimero were both called off.
Ancajas (32-1-2, 22KOs) was supposed to make his ninth title defense of the IBF World Super Flyweight Championship against Jonathan Rodriguez (21-1, 15KOs).
On the other hand, Casimero (29-4, 20KOs) was penciled in a bantamweight unification bout against Naoyo Inoue (19-0, 16KOs). Casimero is the WBO titleholder, while Inoue has the WBA and IBF belts in his possession.
The two bouts will be rescheduled once the COVID-19 global pandemic has been resolved.
“Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Top Rank has postponed all events scheduled for March and April,” Top Rank’s statement read.
“We are monitoring the situation closely and will reschedule the shows as soon as it’s safe and reasonable to do so.”
Casimero has been training in Miami, Florida since February while Ancajas was supposed to head to Las Vegas on Thursday, according to a report from SPIN.ph.
Both Ancajas and Casimero are part of MP Promotions.
