Another marquee fight has been added to Pinoy Pride 42, as Jonas Sultan (13-3, 9KO) will be taking on former IBF World Flyweight champion Johnriel Casimero (24-3, 15KO) in a title eliminator bout. The event will take place on Saturday, September 16, at the Waterfront Hotel and Casino in Cebu City.
The fight was announced by ALA Boxing Promotions on Friday morning in a press conference in Cebu.
In a stacked super flyweight division, two of the toughest Pinoy boxers are set to fight for the right to face reigning champion Jerwin Ancajas. After claiming the world title belt at the 112-pound division last year, Casimero seeks for his third divisional title. To do that, the number three-ranked “Quadro Alas” needs to overcome eighth-ranked Jonas Sultan.
Manwhile, Sultan, who is also the reigning IBF Intercontinental titleholder, is coming off his best performance to date by outlasting former world titlist Sonny Boy Jaro in his hometown last May. He is out to prove that he is now ready for a world title shot with a victory over Casimero.
The Sultan-Casimero showdown will serve as the co-main event for the event headlined by a unification bout pitting IBF World Light Flyweight Champion Milan “El Metodico” Melindo (36-2, 13 KO) against IBO Champion Hekkie Budler (31-2, 10 KO).
