Bobby Ray Parks, Jr. takes first Player of the Week honor; Mikh McKinney cops second

For defeating Chong Son Kung Fu at home and finishing off the Singapore Slingers on the road, San Miguel Alab Pilipinas’ Bobby Ray Parks, Jr. and Renaldo Balkman were feted with the Player of the Week honors during the 11th week of the ASEAN Basketball League.

Parks, Jr., the reigning Local Most Valuable Player, played his best game of the season so far against Chong Son last January 31. The second-generation cager tallied 31 points on 11-for-18 shooting to tow Alab to a 94-91 win at the Sta. Rosa Multipurpose Complex.

Against Singapore four days later, the former National University Bulldog tallied 16 points, four assists, two rebounds, two steals, and a block in Alab’s series-tying 82-69 win.

For his part, World Import Renaldo Balkman averaged 20.5 points, 11.0 rebounds, 5.0 assists, 3.5 blocks, and 3.0 steals during that span to help Alab extend its streak to five wins.

Chong Son’s Mikh McKinney won the Heritage Import of the Week citation for the second straight week.

Playing in the Philippines for the first time, the Filipino-American floor general had 25 points, nine assists, six rebounds, and three steals in the loss. Needing to bounce back quickly, McKinney notched a triple-double with 32 points, 11 rebounds, and 10 assists in Chong Son’s 108-79 win over the Formosa Dreamers last Sunday.

McKinney bested fellow Fil-foreigners Christian Standhardinger (31 points on 10-of-15 shooting, 18 rebounds vs. Saigon Heat) and Joshua Munzon (29 points, 15 rebounds, 5 assists, 2 steals vs. CLS Knights) for the crown.
