Mikh McKinney garnered his first triple-double in the ASEAN Basketball League as he helped steer the Chong Son Kung Fu Basketball Club back to its winning ways with a 108-79 rout of the Formosa Dreamers, Saturday night in Nanhai Gymnasium.
The Filipino-American floor general collected 32 points on 52 percent shooting, 11 rebounds, and 10 assists, along with four steals to help Chongson recover from its loss to Alab Pilipinas last Wednesday in Sta. Rosa, Laguna.
Compatriot and teammate Caelan Tiongson had a poor shooting night, as he only made four out of his 14 shots from the field, but he still managed to finish with 13 points, five rebounds, two assists, and a steal.
The early goings were a close affair, but the bout turned one-sided in favor of Kung Fu when it pushed a slim four-point lead to 12, 41-29, after a McKinney three-pointer with 3:37 left in the second quarter.
From there, the Chinese ball club never looked back and left the visiting Dreamers in the dust. As a result, its lead ballooned to as huge as 30, 103-73, after Tiongson’s basket with three minutes left in the game.
The World Imports, as usual, also made their presence felt. Anthony Tucker scored 22, while Justin Howard had a 20-20 outing with 21 points and 20 rebounds in the victory, which improved Chongson’s record to 7-2.
Erron Maxey, Formosa’s replacement for long-time ABL campaigner Lenny Daniel, led the Taiwanese club team with 34 points and 13 rebounds. Local Yu Han Chen was his only support with 19 points, two boards, and two dimes.
The Dreamers have now absorbed their 10th consecutive loss.
