Now in his natural role, Omega Esports rookie Dean “Raizen” Sumagui has finally unleashed his true potential in the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Professional League-Philippines Season Eight.
“Nawala na po yung kaba.
“Nung nasa regular season po nawala na po yung kaba ko naiwan na po sa regular season,” said Raizen moments after the win against Blacklist International.
Raizen had his first taste of action in the regular season when he replaced fellow rookie Robbie “Hito” Candoy in the starting unit. Back then, star gold laner Duane “Kelra” Pillas was still serving his two-week suspension.
The pride of Silang, Cavite had a winning debut but was eventually replaced by Kelra as soon as the ban was lifted.
But despite getting their prized gold laner back in the roster, the SMART-backed squad’s struggles continued mid-season – forcing Omega Esports coach Jomie “P4kbet” Abalos to gamble on Raizen as he was put in the starting unit again but this time as a jungler, replacing the struggling Kielvj “Kielvj” Hernandez.
Playing in his natural position, Raizen immediately made waves for Omega Esports, leading the squad to a three-game winning streak that sparked its playoff hopes alive.
And on Friday night, the 17-year-old jungler showed nerves of steel as he took charge in Omega Esports’ impressive 3-1 victory to send defending champion and rival Blacklist International down the lower bracket.
“Hindi naman po ako nape-pressure kasi nung una po gold lane po ako, doon po talaga yung pressure sa akin. Tapos nung naging jungler na po ako wala na po yung pressure,” said the rookie.
“Nung nakuha po namin yung Lord tapos na zone po si Hadji [alam na namin na amin na yung laro],” he added.
Raizen and the squad will be going up against ONIC PH in the winners’ finale tomorrow, Saturday at 6:00 PM.
