Meralco’s Alvin Pasaol is slowly regaining his old deadly form, and his recent exploits for the Bolts in their win over NLEX in the PBA On Tour are definitely proof.
Pasaol, who appeared slimmer and more confident with his shot, scored 16 of his game-high 25 points in the fourth quarter on an efficient 9-of-14 shooting clip, including 7-of-12 from three-point range, to lead Meralco to a 96-83 victory over the Road Warriors on Wednesday.
“Hopefully, ganon ulit maulit yung nangyari dati sa UAAP. Siguro binibuild-up ko lang ‘yung sarili ko ngayon para sa better future or better place sa Meralco,“ said Pasaol, who once scored 49 points for University of the East in the UAAP.
The 6-foot-2 sweet-shooting forward struggled in his first few years in the PBA, but his impressive showing at the Ynares Arena in Pasig is a sign that Pasaol is finally regaining his old touch that made him one of the deadliest snipers in the collegiate ranks.
Pasaol revealed that he has been working extra during practices, focusing on his shooting and conditioning as he looks to secure a spot in the Bolts’ rotation in the upcoming PBA Commissioner’s Cup.
“Mayroon akong weight clause sa kontrata ko. Kaya iniwo-workout ko ‘yon palagi kasi ‘yon nga ‘yung nasa kontrata ko. Hanggang ngayon, nagsisipag pa rin ako magpapayat kasi may mga target kaming weight na sinusubukan kung okay ba sa akin ‘tong weight na ‘to o hindi,” said Pasaol.
“Oo, sobrang nakatulong sa akin ‘yung extra work kasi ‘yung mga past three games siguro ‘di ako nakakashoot nang mabuti, pero nung bumalik ako ulit sa sarili kong shooting every time sa practice, ayun, gumanda naman ‘yung shooting ko,” he added.
Aside from the extra work he has been putting into practice sessions, the former Chooks-to-Go 3×3 star mentioned that the trust of Meralco’s active consultant Nenad Vučinić has helped him overcome the shooting struggles that plagued him in the Bolts’ previous conferences.
“Siguro, ano, na-overcome ko kasi sa bigay na tiwala ni coach Nenad [Vučinić] at ng mga coaching staff. Kaya siguro ‘yung na-gain ko ‘yung confidence ko ulit.”
