Alas Men host two champion clubs, Thailand for invitational tourney

Alas Pilipinas will take on two champion clubs and a national team in a pocket tournament set for June 10 to 12 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum, as part of the country’s preparations for hosting the FIVB Men’s Volleyball World Championship.

The Philippine National Volleyball Federation will stage the Alas Pilipinas Invitationals, a three-day event that will serve as a test run for the global tournament scheduled this September.

Headlining the competition are the Hyundai Capital Skywalkers, reigning champions of the Korean V-League, led by stars Su-Bong Heo, Jeon Kwang-In, Moon Sung-min, and Lee Si-woo.

Joining them in the four-team lineup are the Jakarta Bhayangkara Presisi Volleyball Club, defending champions of Indonesia’s Proliga, and the Thailand national team, currently ranked No. 60 in the world and a perennial powerhouse in Southeast Asia.

Following the Invitationals, Alas Pilipinas will fly to Manama, Bahrain, to compete in the AVC Men’s Nations Cup from June 17 to 24.

The national team is currently in New York for a special engagement, where they will participate in an exhibition match against Fil-Am Nation Select.

During their visit, the team will also conduct a volleyball clinic and host a meet-and-greet session with fans.
