The Philippine Men’s Under-19 National Football Team started its campaign in the 2022 AFF U-19 Youth Championship on the backfoot with a narrow 1-0 loss to Thailand, Saturday night, at the Patriot Candrabhaga Stadium in Indonesia.
The result means that Thailand gains three points in Group A and sits in second place after Myanmar’s 7-0 win over Myanmar early in the day.
Thailand forward Winai Aimoat scored past Azkals goalkeeper Lance Bencio in the 11th minute to break the deadlock.
Coach Christopher Pedimonte’s boys then tried to find a way back in the game but the Thais were just too hard to breach in the end.
Both teams next play on Monday. The Philippines takes on Vietnam at 4:00 PM while Thailand goes up against Myanmar at 6:00 PM.
