AFC: Kaya-Iloilo suffer four-goal drubbing to Incheon United in Korea

Philippines Football League champion Kaya-Iloilo suffered its second loss in the 2023-2024 AFC Champions League — a 4-0 rout at the hands of South Korea’s Incheon United at the Sungui Arena Park on Tuesday evening.

The Philippines’ lone representative in Asian football’s biggest club competition fell to the bottom of Group G behind this defeat while Incheon United rose to the top with six points on the back of two straight wins.

Kaya’s dismal start set the tone for the rest of the match. Stefan Mugosa scored a brace within the first 20 minutes, putting the ball at the back of the net with a header six minutes into the contest and then doubling the home side’s lead with a penalty in the 19th minute.

Things then became worse for Kaya before the halftime break as Hernandes Rodrigues scored a tap-in in the 36th minute.

The home side then capped off the rout in the 74th minute courtesy of Paul-Jose M’Poku’s free kick.

Both teams will return to action on October 25. Kaya hopes to get its first win when it takes on Yokohama F. Marinos away while Incheon United seeks to get its third straight win it hosts Shandong Taishan.
