Kaya-Iloilo suffered its third loss in the 2023-24 AFC Champions League, a 3-0 defeat at the hands of the Japanese side Yokohama F. Marinos on Wednesday at the Yokohama International Stadium in Japan.
The 2023 Philippines Football League champions remain at the bottom of Group G with zero points and a goal difference of minus-9.
Kota Mizunuma opened the floodgates with a header in the 35th minute, assisted by his teammate Elber.
The home side continued the rout in the second half. Kenyu Sugimoto doubled his team’s lead with another header in the 72nd minute.
Anderson Lopes then sealed the victory with the game’s third headed goal in the 90+5th minute.
Yokohama is in third place in Group G with 6 points and a goal difference of +2, following back-to-back wins.
Kaya and Yokohama will face each other again on November 7, 2023, at the Rizal Memorial Stadium with kickoff scheduled for 8:00 PM.
In the other game, the Chinese club Shandong Taishan defeated South Korea’s Incheon United in Incheon. Crysan and former English Premier League star Marouane Fellaini scored the goals for Shandong in the second half.
Shandong currently tops Group G with 6 points due to a superior head-to-head record against Incheon, which is in second place with 6 points and a goal difference of +2.
Shandong and Incheon will meet again on November 7, 2023, in China, with kickoff at 6:00 PM Manila time.
