The Philippine Under 20 Women’s National Football Team started its 2024 AFC U-20 Women’s Asian Cup qualification campaign on a sour note with a 6-0 defeat to China, Wednesday in Laos.
Coach Nahuel Arrarte’s side conceded three goals in the first half.
China’s Huo Yuexin scored in the ninth and 36th minutes of the match respectively while Zou Mengyao put the ball at the back of the net in the 22nd minute.
Come the second half, Lu Jiayu, Ouyang Yuhuan, and Quiao Ruiqi scored in the 69th, 74th, and 82nd minutes respectively to further add to China’s tally.
The outcome meant that China started its Group A campaign by getting all three points.
The Filipinas U20 hope to bounce back against host nation Laos this Friday. Kick-off is at 8:30 PM Manila time.
