AFC: Kylie Yap gets sent off as Filipinas U20 end qualifiers with Hong Kong draw

The Philippine Under-20 Women’s National Football Team played out a 2-2 stalemate against Hong Kong to end its 2024 AFC U-20 Women’s Asian Cup qualification campaign Sunday in Laos.

The result meant that coach Nahuel Arrarte’s team finished second in Group A with 4 points on the back of one win, one draw, and one defeat.

Robyn Dizon first handed the Filipinas an early lead with a strike in the 11th minute.

However, Hong Kong managed to fight back. Goals from Alexis Lee and Anke Leung in the 24th and 45+1 minutes, respectively, turned the game upside down.

Isabella Pasion, though, leveled the contest for the Filipinas in the 54th minute.

With the game precariously level, the Philippines had to play with only 10 players on the pitch in the final stages. Kylie Yap was dismissed in the 81st minute following her second yellow card. Ultimately, the Filipinas held on for a draw.

Hong Kong finished its campaign with 2 points in Group A behind two draws and one defeat.

China booked a ticket to the next round by topping the group with 9 points thanks to three straight wins. Laos finished bottom with 1 point after one draw and two losses.
